Just as it seemed Anthropic was set to buckle under demand for its products, the cloud giants arrived with their checkbooks.
Amazon said Monday it will add up to $25 billion to its Anthropic investment, on top of the $8 billion already committed — $5 billion now, the rest to follow. As part of the deal, Anthropic signed a new agreement securing up to 5 gigawatts of capacity for training and deploying Claude, including new Trainium2 capacity coming online this quarter and nearly 1GW of Trainium2 and Trainium3 capacity by the end of 2026. Anthropic is committing more than $100 billion over the next ten years to AWS technologies. New capacity starts coming online this quarter.
Then Google doubled down. The search giant agreed to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic — $10 billion now at a $350 billion valuation, with the remaining $30 billion tied to unspecified performance targets. Google will also supply 5 gigawatts of compute to Anthropic starting next year, adding to the string of deals boosting the startup's access to servers.
That's Amazon and Google together pledging up to $65 billion in new investment and 10 gigawatts of compute capacity. For context, these arrangements counter doubts from some observers — including rival OpenAI — that Anthropic had secured enough servers to keep up with its recent fast growth. That question appears to be settled.
