SoftBank launches an $11B-plus junk bond sale to fund its next OpenAI investment payment

SoftBank Group launched a bond offering of more than $10 billion (Bloomberg puts the target above $11 billion) on 21 September 2026 to fund its investment in OpenAI, according to a term sheet reported by Reuters and Bloomberg. It follows the upsized $11.87 billion two-year bank loan SoftBank secured on 14 September and Apollo's talks to raise its SoftBank loan to $9 billion on 17 September. The debt stack shows how OpenAI's largest investor is funding its capital commitment ahead of the reported pre-IPO round.

Lovable acquires Sutro, maker of the SLang programming language, bringing in its founder and three engineers

Lovable announced on 2026-09-18 that it has acquired Sutro, the company behind the SLang programming language and a platform for generating production software. Sutro founder Tomas Halgas and three Sutro engineers join Lovable to work on making generated software easier to explain and trust. Terms were not disclosed. It is a tuck-in relative to the $400M Lovable raised at a $13.3B valuation in August 2026, but it is the company's own M&A move to bring explainability tooling and compiler talent in-house.

Kalshi files with the SEC and CFTC to list perpetual futures on individual US stocks, alongside a Coinbase proposal

On 18 September 2026 KalshiEX filed a proposed rule change with the SEC under File No. SR-KALSHIEX-2026-02 (Release No. 34-106422) adopting a new Rulebook Chapter 14 for 'Perpetual Security Futures Products', and submitted the same framework to the CFTC. The filing states the change would take effect on 2 November 2026 or later if CFTC approval slips; Coinbase Derivatives filed a companion proposal (SR-COIN-2026-002) the same day and Bitnomial, tied to Kraken parent Payward, filed SR-BTNL-2026-001. Approval would push Kalshi well beyond event contracts into US single-stock derivatives, a materially larger revenue pool.

Musk says Boring Company is working on a 200+ mph 'precursor Hyperloop' tunnel between Austin and San Antonio

On 20 September 2026 Elon Musk said The Boring Company is working on a 'simple, precursor Hyperloop' tunnel linking Austin and San Antonio at speeds above 200 mph, cutting a journey that can take up to 2.5 hours in I-35 traffic to a consistent under 30 minutes. Bloomberg and TechCrunch both reported the statement the same day; the roughly 80-mile corridor would be the company's first intercity project, far beyond the short urban loops it operates today. No contract, route approval, funding or timeline was disclosed, so this reads as a stated direction of travel rather than a booked project.

OpenAI projects $278B of negative free cash flow through 2030 against a $350B 2030 revenue target, FT reports

The Financial Times reported on 18 September 2026, citing a recent OpenAI investor presentation, that the company expects $278 billion of negative free cash flow between 2026 and 2030, with revenue rising nearly tenfold from $36 billion this year to $350 billion in 2030 and $840 billion of cumulative revenue over the period. The presentation puts compute and infrastructure spending at about $856 billion through 2030 and indicates the $122 billion OpenAI raised in March is on pace to be exhausted in 2028. Reuters and Bloomberg matched the figures the same day; the disclosure frames the capital need behind the reported $1.2T+ pre-IPO round.

Anthropic pushes its planned IPO to November from October, later than investors expected

The Wall Street Journal reported on 18 September 2026 that Anthropic now plans to stage its initial public offering in November, later than many investors expected and a month after the October listing it had been pointing to. The New York Times reported the same day that Anthropic is moving ahead with IPO plans amid the AI safety debate, and The Information said the wait has put Wall Street on edge, noting CFO Krishna Rao had met prospective public investors with the company having turned a slight operating profit in the June quarter after spending about $2.30 per $1 of revenue in spring 2025. The delay changes the timing and risk profile of what would be one of the largest technology listings ever, and gives the company another quarter of numbers to show.

Nscale files its S-1 for a NYSE IPO under the ticker NSCL

On 18 September 2026 Nscale Ltd (SEC CIK 0002110365) publicly filed a Form S-1 to list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker 'NSCL', and confirmed the filing on its own newsroom. The London-based AI cloud provider, which spun out of crypto miner Arkon Energy in 2024 and counts Nvidia, Blue Owl, Dell, Fidelity and Point72 among its investors, was last valued at $14.6B in a March 2026 round. Payward files with CFTC and SEC to list single-stock perpetual futures on Kraken, starting with 10 US stocks

On September 18, 2026 Payward, Kraken's parent, said it was filing the required rules and product terms with the CFTC and SEC through Bitnomial, its US-regulated exchange and clearinghouse, to offer single-stock perpetual futures to eligible US traders. The launch set is 10 US equities including Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, Microsoft and Amazon, trading 24/5 with no expiry or rollovers. Coinbase Derivatives and Kalshi lodged competing applications dated the same day, so the filing stakes Kraken's claim to a new US equity-derivatives revenue line built on the Bitnomial licences.

Yahoo Finance ends its Polymarket partnership and shuts its prediction markets hub

Bloomberg reported on 18 September 2026 that Yahoo Finance and Polymarket have ended their prediction-market partnership and that Yahoo Finance has closed the Polymarket-powered prediction markets hub on its site. Yahoo Finance confirmed the wind-down in its own media post the same day, while Finance Magnates reported the two sides keep a separate advertising relationship. Losing a mainstream retail-finance distribution surface removes a significant top-of-funnel channel for Polymarket's US user growth.
