On 6 October 2026 Sierra announced Personal Agent Protocol, an open standard it is developing with Meta and industry partners Genesys, Instinct, Rocket, Shopify, Stripe and Walmart, defining how consumers' personal AI agents authenticate and interact with businesses over websites, APIs and company agents. CNBC reported the same day that Sierra co-founder Bret Taylor is leading the initiative, which is open for anyone to implement. Anchoring an interoperability standard alongside Meta and Walmart places Sierra at the centre of consumer-to-business agent commerce rather than only supplying customer-service agents.
